We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend and LETI board member Dr. José García-Pabón, who left us and his beautiful family after a courageous struggle with cancer.
As Washington State University’s Latino Community Studies and Outreach Specialist since 2007, a member of the Latino Educational Training Institute’s Board since 2012 and one of the founders of the Latino Leadership Initiative, he dedicated himself to the education of our Latino Community and our many LLI participants.
As an immigrant from Bolivia, he created a safe and nurturing setting —so we could all seek a place on the world stage. Dr. Garcia was funny, brilliant, kind, a gifted teacher and loyal friend. He considered himself a servant leader. He was an unforgettable mentor.
We never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. In gratitude, we remember Dr. José García-Pabón, for all the gifts he left behind and for our moments together.
The family has graciously allowed LETI to accept donations to its activities in memory of Dr. Garcia-Pabon. Gifts will be applied to the Latino Leadership Initiative and its scholarship fund. DONATE
